So Phil Robertson has stirred up the anger of the PC police, and the GLAAD folks with his comments that were made during an interview with GQ magazine. If you’re not sure what I’m talking about, here is that part of the interview:
“Start with homosexual behavior and just morph out from there…bestiality, sleeping around with this woman and that woman and that woman and those men. Don’t be deceived: Neither the adulterers, the idolaters, the male prostitutes, the homosexual offenders, the greedy, the drunkards, the slanderers, the swindlers—they won’t inherit the kingdom of God. Don’t deceive yourself; it’s not right”
Now, if you want to get your boxers (or panties) in a wad over that comment, you may as well be offended if you drink too much, have cheated on a partner, said things about people that weren’t true, or cheated ANYONE on anything. Because it looks to me like he went out of his way to include everyone. NOT just gay people. I think that too many people have decided that he was just singling out gay people and comparing them to those that practice bestiality. But I don’t think that was the case.
The man was stating his opinion. HIS opinion.
Here’s another opinion you might like to talk about:
A star of a Russian takeoff on the sitcom “Scrubs” has said that gay people should be put in ovens alive, because they are a “danger” to his children.
“I’d put them all alive in the oven,” Ivan Okhlobystin told fans in Novosibirsk in Siberia, according to quotes published in the Moscow Times. “It’s a living danger to my children.”
Where is GLAAD on this?
Here is the problem, as I see it. And remember, this is MY blog, so it’s MY opinion. It’s based on the facts that I have gathered unto myself, disseminated by me for my own knowledge base. Doesn’t make it true, or accurate, or based on anything except what I think. That makes it MY opinion. I don’t agree with everything that Phil said. Hell, if I did, I’d be the biggest hypocrite on the planet. There’s not much on that list that I haven’t done. The thing is, Phil has too. He’s fully admitted that he was a hard core ’60’s guy that had to hit rock bottom before he decided to clean up his act. And just because he feels the way that he does, only makes what he says HIS opinion. He was asked for his opinion. And now they (they being the PC police and the liberals that hate everything) want to crucify him for what he said.
He is quoting what he has taken away from the Bible. HIS interpretation of what the scriptures say. That’s what everyone does. Whole religions are based on the take away that this person, or that group has decided what the Bible says. There aren’t many passages in the Bible that can’t be stretched and molded to fit some agenda or theme.
Look what they did to Paula Deen. She used the “N” word. Twenty something years ago. Look what they put her through. And she clearly isn’t a racist. She supported, and voted for Obama. In my book that just makes her dumb, but not a racist. Again, MY opinion.
A&E is about ONE thing. And that’s making money. Here’s the thing though. They have already chosen to bow to those that want to say what is and what isn’t acceptable to say. And once you give up the right to let the people that have the shows on your network have their say, you can’t back down. Do I think that A&E will fire the whole Duck Dynasty family? Yeah, I do. And it will be one of the stupidest things that they could ever do. That show is a cash cow for them. But they will just sacrifice that cow on the altar of GREED. And that’s just my opinion.
I will say again, I don’t agree with everything that Phil Robertson said. Heck, I don’t even watch the show. But I will defend his right to say it. He’s never said that he would hurt or harm anyone. He just doesn’t agree with a lifestyle. And that is all. He also said this:
“However, I would never treat anyone with disrespect just because they are different from me. We are all created by the Almighty and like Him, I love all of humanity. We would all be better off if we loved God and loved each other.”
